4/15/10 ABINGDON, Va. – Highlands Union Bank (HUB), headquartered in Abingdon, Va., is commemorating its 25th anniversary in April with a weeklong celebration at each of its 14 branches throughout Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. All HUB branches will officially commemorate the event during the week of April 26-30, 2010, with door prizes and refreshments. The public is invited to visit any HUB location during that week and register for the 25th Anniversary Grand Prize Giveaway (individuals must be 18 years of age or older to register). The bank-wide Grand Prize is a cruise for two. Drawing will be held the week of May 3-7, and the winner will be notified at that time. Highlands Union opened its doors for business in a renovated hardware store on Main Street in Abingdon on April 25, 1985. A second branch followed in 1988 – in Bristol, Va. Since that time, HUB has added 12 branches, a technology center and a financial center. “Because of a dedicated staff, sound decisions, excellent customer service and loyal shareholders, our bank has experienced remarkable growth and success,” says Highlands Union Bank Chief Executive Officer Sam Neese. “We are grateful for the continued support of the communities we serve and look forward to maintaining that high level of service that sets us apart.” Twenty-five years ago, the bank had eight employees, $2.2 million in capital and 600 investors. Today, the staff has grown to more than 240, and assets have topped $650 million.
