Swartz Named VP

Jim Swartz has been promoted to vice president and senior credit review officer for Highlands Union Bank’s 13 locations.

In his new position, Swartz’s primary responsibility will be monitoring the credit quality of the bank’s loan portfolio. He will work out of the bank’s Main Street headquarters in Abingdon, Va.

"Jim has a proven record of excellent financial analysis and management," says Highlands Union Bank CEO Sam Neese. "His expertise in the financial realm adds a professional dimension to the Highlands Union team that is second to none."

Swartz has several years of banking experience and previously served as assistant vice president and credit review officer for Highlands Union. He joined HUB in 2001 in the collections department, subsequently moving to special assets management and credit analysis.

"Working for a locally owned, independent bank such as Highlands Union affords me the ability to be a part of building our communities," Swartz says. "Whether it is financing a new house for one of our neighbors or a new commercial project that helps bring jobs to our community, I am pleased to serve the region by providing such a vital service."

Swartz earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, as well as an associate degree in business administration from Virginia Highlands Community College in Abingdon. He completed the Leadership Washington County Program in 2006 and is currently enrolled in the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management, a three-year program through the University of Virginia.

In addition, Swartz recently completed a five-year term on the advisory board of Virginia Highlands Community College, serving as chairman for two years. He also serves on the board of trustees and as assistant treasurer for the Allison Gap Church of God in Saltville, Va. A native of Saltville, Swartz resides in Glade Spring, Va., with his wife, Jennifer.

Highlands Union Bank has assets in excess of $620 million. The bank serves the region through its main office in Abingdon and 12 other branches: two each in Abingdon and Bristol, Va.; one each in Glade Spring and Marion, Va.; one each in Sevierville, Rogersville and Blountville, Tenn.; and three locations in North Carolina – bank branches in Boone and Banner Elk and a loan office in West Jefferson. A full-service branch in Knoxville, Tenn., is currently under construction and expected to open later this summer.
