Identity Theft is a crime that does not discriminate. Anyone can be a victim. However, there are security measures we can all take to prevent our important account information from getting in the wrong hands.

How do I know if a telephone call or email I receive from Highlands Union Bank is legitimate?
The only way a customer can know if a telephone call is from Highlands Union Bank is by challenging the caller to prove they are who they say they are OR returning the call to a published telephone number of the bank. Highlands Union Bank encourages its customers to challenge calls they may receive.

There is no way to verify the authenticity of an email. Highlands Union Banks uses Internet banking secure communications for confidential customer contact, not email.

What if the caller or email sender appears to have some of my account information?
Do not click on any link in any e-mail requesting that you "verify" your personal information. Even if the e-mail or caller has some of your information, do not give out any additional information.

Should I verbally provide account information to the lobby or drive-thru tellers?
It is best to provide account information to your bank tellers in writing. You never know who may be listening if you verbally provide this information.

Where can I get more information about identity theft?
Highlands Union Bank distributes pamphlets on protecting yourself from identity theft. These pamphlets are free and available to the public at any of our office locations, or you may call your local Highlands Union Bank office and request one.
